Zanzibar

Zanzibar also known as 'Spice Island' is located in the Indian Ocean and just 25 miles off the coast of Tanzania. Its capital Stone Town is the old heart of Zanzibar and looks much the same as it did two centuries ago. It is a fine example of a UNESCO Heritage Site with its Arabian style stone houses reflecting its culture and surroundings. A stroll through the bazaars with their carpenters, jewellers, hawkers, tailors and coffee sellers is an experience in itself! If you decide to do some shopping make sure to brush up on your haggling skills!

The beautiful unspoilt beaches on the East coast of Zanzibar are the ideal place to relax and soak up the African sun after your safari. It offers powder soft sandy beaches shaded by palm trees and the turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean. There are coral reefs a-plenty also making it a great spot for diving, snorkeling and water based excursions or take a traditional dhow (sailing boat) and take in the beautiful coastline scenery.

There are many fine hotels to choose from and Sunway have a selection of a few favourites. Whilst always welcoming and hospitable it should be noted that service levels often reflect the laid back and easy going attitude of the people! Many visitors to Zanzibar choose to combine a couple of days in Stone Town with a few days at one of the beautiful beaches but be mindful of the tides though as regards the best times for swimming. Contact our sales team and we will be happy to tailor-make a safari and beach itinerary to suit your needs.
