Platanias really is the best of both worlds. Situated in the northwest of the island and only 15 minutes from Chania the town has two quite different sides. To the north of the bustling main street is the buzzy, energetic Platanias
● clubs, bars, hotels. To the south is the old town which climbs away from the beach. Here you can experience more of the traditional, laid back Crete.
The beach at Platanias is sandy, soft and long at almost 7km. It's well cared for and has plenty of watersport activities to cater for the more energetic traveller as well as being family-friendly.
Beyond the town you can visit Chania and take in its charming port area which dates back to its previous Venetian rulers. Then find yourself meandering along the streets of the old town in search of your next delicious meal or a bargain in one of the many artisan and souvenir shops.
Take the time too to check out the ancient ruins of Aptera. Not as well known as Knossos, this site is well worth the visit to see the Byzantine castle that overlooks the crystal Aegean waters.
Whether it's clubbing or culture or both that you're looking for, Platanias is sure to deliver.
Transfer time from Chania Airport approx. 35 mins.
