Vancouver

Located on the Pacific coast between the sea and mountains, the stunningly scenic city of Vancouver is the largest in the province of British Columbia. A cosmopolitan city offering, cultural attractions, art galleries, museums, theatres, excellent shopping, fine restaurants and a host of outdoor activities Vancouver makes for a great city break and with the great outdoors on its doorstep it is easy to see why Vancouver is one of the world's most favourite cities.

Downtown is situated next to the waterfront where summers are ideal for a light stroll or down Robson Street where you are spoilt for choice with a variety of stores, shops and restaurants. The West End is full of cafes and coffee shops and the young and trendy Yaletown area boasts some great designer boutiques and chic restaurants with the opportunity to eat al fresco come summertime. Microbreweries are thriving in Vancouver with many of the breweries open the public for tours and the cities nightlife is a steadily increasing mixture of stylish bars, pubs, clubs and live music venues. With the city being well served by public transport including buses, the Skytrain, ferries, rail and taxis, getting around couldn’t be easier.

For fans of the great outdoors you are just spoilt for choice with plenty of outdoor pursuits on offer nearby or just a short distance away, at Whistler for example, where the 2010 winter Olympics where held. Try your hand at rafting, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and snowboarding (season permitting) to roller blading and cycling or take the Cliffwalk at Capilano Bridge Suspension Park, not for those who have a fear of heights! Alternatively why not explore the spectacular coastline by taking one of the many excursions by floatplane, or take a ferry journey to enjoy the whale watching that is synonymous to the area. The waters surrounding the Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands are one of the world’s best spots for catching a glimpse of killer whale pods. After your trip relax and sip some of the local wines and enjoy the coastal views.

Top Tips:
Take a cruise from Vancouver to visit the ice sheets and bergs off Alaska. A popular experience now is to spend a few nights in Vancouver pre or post Cruise from May – September.
