SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa There are many reasons to visit South Africa for the holiday of a lifetime.

It could be those beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean, a Safari in the enormous Kruger National Park, a visit to beautiful Cape Town in the shadow of Table Mountain, and to rugged Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans merge.

It could be a journey on the famous Blue Train, or a drive along the lovely Garden Route. It could even be a flutter at the Tables of Sun City, South Africa's answer to Las Vegas. Most likely, though, it will be a combination of such fabulous attractions that will entice you to this, the most diverse, richest and most beautiful of all African countries. In the 2009 Condé Nast Readers Travel Awards South Africa was voted in the top 10 favourite holiday destinations worldwide.

There are fabulous sub-tropical gardens, sparkling swimming pools and a huge man-made lake which offers just about every water sport imaginable. Trips can be arranged to the beautiful Pilanesburg National Park (a 10 minute drive) which will delight game viewer and nature lover alike. Elephant, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, rhino and a large variety of antelope can be seen from open bush vehicles, on walks supervised by qualified game rangers, or from a hot air balloon.

The Garden Route

-- Take a trip along the celebrated Garden Route which stretches from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth offering the stunning beauty of secluded coves, lagoons, mountains and forests. The region has become South Africa's most popular tourist destination after Cape Town and its easy to see why. The highlights of the Garden Route include the Wilderness Coastal stretch, the whale watchers paradise of Hermanus, Knysna's lagoon and forest based activities, the unspoilt Tsitsikamma National Park and some of South Africas most beautiful beaches at Plettenberg Bay. Visitors enjoy the long leisurely drives and the many hiking trails, fishing and golf activities available in this lovely part of the country.

Victoria Falls and Zambia

-- The Victoria Falls moved David Livingstone, renowned explorer and the first white man to see this natural wonder of the world, to say: “a scene so beautiful it must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. Known as “Mosi o a Thunya” (the smoke that thunders), the Falls are one and a half times as wide and twice as high as Niagra Falls, and are a truly awesome sight. The Zambian side of The Victoria Falls provides an entirely separate experience to its better-known Zimbabwean counterpart. Situated in the 46-hectare Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park, the views are spectacular, you can sidle right up to the falling water by walking down a track to the base of the falls following walkways perched over the abyss. The other highlight of this region is the Zambezi River whose beauty and splendour lured early adventurers and explorers. Still even today many modern day travellers are unable to resist the River's magnetism as it provides countless opportunities for adrenalin-packed water sports or incredible game and bird viewing.

Wildlife

-- Have you ever wanted to see wild animals in their natural habitat? Why not have this experience in South Africa! There are two ways you can do this, each providing you with the secret insights to some of the finest game viewing in the world! Private Game Reserves: An experience of a lifetime! Enjoy staying in sumptuous surroundings with expert rangers on hand to guide you through every aspect of the glorious world around you. The Private Game Reserve is the ultimate treat, including luxurious safari lodge accommodation blended with exquisite food and highly qualified rangers to unveil the mysteries of the 'wild'. All game viewing is conducted in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles which allow for total freedom of movement and the ability to leave the road and track down all of Africa's Big Five. Rest Camps: The Rest camps are state owned accommodation that are scattered within the Kruger National Park offering basic, yet 'cheap and cheerful' lodgings. A car is a necessity for getting in and around the park. Park entrance fees are payable locally.
