Discover the magic of the Camino de Santiago with Dr. Ciara Kelly, radio presenter, columnist, and founder of the 100DaysOfWalking initiative on this carefully designed group walking holiday along the last 100km of the Portuguese Coastal Way.

Our journey begins in the historic seaside town of Baiona, where we'll spend our first night at the magnificent Parador de Baiona. From there, we'll follow the stunning coastline to the vibrant city of Vigo, enjoying spectacular views across the Bay of Vigo before turning inland through the rolling green landscapes of Galicia. Our Camino concludes at the iconic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the world's most celebrated pilgrimage destinations.

With comfortable accommodation, daily luggage transfers and expert support throughout, all the logistics are taken care of, leaving you free to enjoy the beautiful scenery, welcoming Galician towns and villages, and the uniquely rewarding experience of walking the Camino.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive to Baiona

Today begins our Camino adventure as we depart Dublin on our direct flight to Santiago. On arrival we will travel by coach to our hotel in the medieval seaside town of Baiona.

We will start our journey with a stay at the Parador de Baiona, a majestic hotel set in a converted medieval fortress on a peninsula overlooking the Bay of Vigo. With Gothic architecture and panoramic sea views, it’s the perfect setting to start our adventure. This evening, we'll gather for a welcome drink and dinner, giving you the opportunity to meet your fellow travellers and look ahead to the memorable journey we'll share over the coming week.

Day 2 – Baiona to Vigo: 23km

This morning after breakfast at our accommodation, we’ll lace up our hiking boots and embark on our self-paced Camino de Santiago walking holiday. Today’s route will lead us from Baiona along the Atlantic coast, passing through the charming town of Nigrán with its golden beaches. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views over the Bay of Vigo and the Cíes Islands. Our day concludes in Vigo, Galicia’s largest town.
Bursting with energy, Vigo offers a fascinating mix of maritime heritage, lively streets and an excellent choice of cafés and restaurants to enjoy at your leisure this evening.

Walking distance 23km // walking time approximately 5-6.5 hours

Day 3 – Vigo to Redondela – 17km

After breakfast let’s continue walking the maritime seascapes of the Portuguese Coastal Way. Begin the day with an uphill climb and we’ll soon be rewarded with spectacular views back over Vigo, its bustling harbour and the surrounding coastline. From here, the Camino winds through fragrant pine forests, past quiet beaches and charming villages before reaching Redondela, affectionately known as the "Village of the Viaducts" thanks to its impressive 19th-century railway bridges. Take time to explore this welcoming Camino town and enjoy its unique atmosphere before we return by coach to Vigo.
This evening is yours to relax or perhaps head into Vigo's atmospheric Old Town, where you can sample the city's excellent tapas restaurants and soak up its lively ambience.

Walking distance 16km // walking time approximately 3-4 hours

Day 4 – Redondela to Pontevedra - 20km

This morning, after breakfast, we'll travel by coach back to Redondela to rejoin the Camino. From here, we'll join the inland Portuguese Camino as we make our way towards the historic town of Pontevedra. Today's route offers a wonderful mix of coastal scenery and rural landscapes, with views across the Bay of Vigo before passing through the village of Arcade, renowned throughout Galicia for its famous oysters. Crossing the historic Ponte Sampaio Bridge, the site of Napoleon's defeat during the War of Independence, we'll continue on to the elegant town of Pontevedra.

Walking distance 20km // walking time approximately 4-5 hours

Day 5 - Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis– 22km

Today, we leave the coast behind and venture into the peaceful rural heart of Northern Spain. Much of the day's walk takes us through tranquil woodlands, gentle river valleys and small traditional villages, offering a glimpse into everyday Galician life away from the bustling coastline.
Our destination is Caldas de Reis, a charming spa town renowned for its natural thermal waters. After arriving, why not reward your efforts by soaking your feet in the warm thermal springs in the town's main square, a simple but much-loved Camino tradition.
After some free time to explore, we'll return by coach to Pontevedra, where you'll enjoy another evening at leisure in this historic Spanish town.

Walking distance 22km // walking time approximately 6-7 hours

Day 6 - Caldas de Reis to Padron – 20km

After breakfast, we'll return by coach to Caldas de Reis to continue our Camino.
Crossing the River Umia, today's walk climbs gently through peaceful oak forests and vineyard-lined paths, passing tiny Galician villages and beautiful Romanesque churches, including the Church of Santa Mariña de Carracedo. The route then descends towards the River Fontenlo before leading us into the historic town of Padrón.
Steeped in Camino tradition, Padrón is believed to be the place where the body of St. James first arrived by boat before being taken to Santiago. It's also famous for its delicious Padrón peppers, a local speciality that's well worth trying during your visit.
This evening, we'll come together for a group dinner in our hotel, sharing stories, favourite moments and the experiences of the journey so far.

Our final walking day has arrived and what a day it will be! Today's route takes us through beautiful rural landscapes and welcoming Galician villages as anticipation builds with every step towards Santiago. Along the way, we'll pass the Sanctuary of Escravitude before reaching Alto do Milladoiro, where pilgrims traditionally caught their first glimpse of the Cathedral and paused to reflect on the end of their remarkable journey.
Finally, we'll make our triumphant arrival into the Plaza del Obradoiro, where the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela awaits. Take time to savour the moment, celebrate your achievement and bask in the glory of completing your pilgrimage along the Portuguese Coastal Way.

Walking distance 25km // walking time approximately 6-7 hours

This evening, we'll gather one final time for a celebratory dinner and drinks, raising a glass to a memorable week, new friendships and the incredible achievement of completing the Camino together.
