Follow in the footsteps of centuries of pilgrims on the final 100km of the Camino Inglés (English Way), one of the lesser-travelled and most historic routes to Santiago de Compostela. Traditionally used by pilgrims arriving by sea from Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Europe, this scenic route begins in the maritime city of Ferrol and winds through the peaceful Galician countryside, rolling hills, charming medieval towns, and ancient forests before reaching the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago.

This self-guided 6 night adventure offers you the flexibility to walk at your own pace, with carefully prepared walking notes and convenient luggage transfers between accommodations. Itinerary

Day 1 - Travel to Spain

Make your way to Ferrol, the start of the last 100km of the Camino Ingles or also known as the English or Celtic Way. From here, pilgrims particularly from Ireland & Great Britain would disembark their boats and start their journey on foot towards Santiago. If time allows, wander through Ferrol’s historic streets steeped in maritime history from the 18th-century Naval Museum to the city’s famous shipyards. Tomorrow, your Camino adventure begins.

Day 2 - Ferrol to Pontedeume - 30kms

This morning after breakfast, prepare your hiking boots and set off on the first stage of your Camino. Leaving the city behind, you will follow a scenic coastal path to the Monastery of San Martiño de Xubia in Neda, one of Galicia's oldest and most significant religious sites. From here the route heads inland through the beautiful Galician countryside before reaching the charming maritime town of Pontedeume. Situated on the banks of the River Eume and surrounded by rolling green hills, you enter the town by crossing the historic Pont-de-Eume, the bridge that gave the town its name and was once the longest bridge in Europe.

Walking distance 30km // walking time approximately 7-8 hours

Day 3 - Pontedeume to Betanzos - 21km

Today's walk is more challenging with a series of rewarding ascents and descents through the Galician countryside. Your efforts are well worth it, as the route offers spectacular views across the lush landscape and the dramatic coastline.
Stop on the way at the coastal village of Mino, rossing the beautiful medieval bridge over the River Baxoi before continuing towards Betanzos. Your walk follows the nearby River Lambre estuary and its marshes. On arrival in Betanzos, take time to explore its wealth of artistic and historic treasures, including the impressive Igrexa de San Francisco de Betanzos, as well as its charming medieval streets and lively squares.

Day 4 - Betanzos to Bruma - 24km

Today your Camino journey takes you further inland through the heart of rural Galicia. Walk through peaceful farmland, charming villages and shaded forest trails as you enjoy one of the quieter sections of the route and reflect on your journey so far. Along the way, you will pass the abandoned hermitage of San Paio before arriving in Bruma, a small town best known for its former medieval hospital, which once provided shelter to pilgrims travelling to Santiago.

Day 5 - Bruma to Siguerio - 24km

Today you will discover why Galicia is renowned for its lush green landscapes as you walk through the beautiful countryside of the Ordes region. Follow rural paths lined with native woodland, passing small chapels, stone crosses and traditional hamlets that offer a glimpse into Galicia's rich heritage.
Immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings as you make your way to Sigüeiro, situated on the banks of the River Tambre. This welcoming town marks your final overnight stop before reaching the iconic city of Santiago de Compostela.

Day 6 - Siguerio to Santiago de Compostela - 16km

Your last walking day has arrived! Setting out from Sigüeiro your route continues parallel to the river until you reach Fontana de Inglés, before continuing onwards to Meixonfrío, a historically important resting place where pilgrims would pause before entering the Cathedral Square.
From here, continue into Santiago de Compostela, where you can admire its magnificent cathedral and soak up the unique atmosphere of this historic city as you reflect on your remarkable achievement.
Do not forget to go to the Pilgrim’s Office with your Pilgrim Passport if you want to get your “Compostela” (Pilgrim Certificate).

Walking distance 16km // walking time approximately 4-5 hours

Day 7 - Finish your Camino

Your unforgettable Camino de Santiago holiday has come to an end. After breakfast, check out from your hotel and, if time allows, take a final stroll through the charming streets of Santiago's old town. Whether you're heading home or continuing your adventure, we hope you've enjoyed every moment of walking the last 100KM of the Camino de Santiago English Way.

Practical Information

- Luggage Transfers:
Your luggage will be transported between accommodations each day, pick up is normally @ 8am.
- Accommodations:
You will stay in comfortable hotels and pensions(guesthouses), providing a restful end to each day’s trek. Each room has their own en-suite bathroom.
- Walking:
Enjoy the flexibility of this self-paced journey. Make stops along the way for a snack and tea or coffee, there are plenty of resting places and toilet facilities on route. Detailed walking notes will be provided as well as a 24-hour emergency phone number.
Most of all don’t forget to take a moment every now and then to admire your beautiful surroundings.

Top Tips

- Prepare a day pack for each morning containing Water, Blister plasters, medication if required during the day, spare socks, raincoat, snacks etc (keep it as light as possible as you will be carrying this one along the way)
- Ensure you pack comfortable, waterproof walking boots or shoes and be sure they are well worn in before your trip. Bring some cash as the smaller villages along the way don’t accept card.
