Sunway Holidays is delighted to announce brand new for 2024 our tour of Northern Greece featuring Halkidiki and Thessaloniki. Halkidiki offer a wonderful mix of fantastic resorts, rugged landscapes and quaint, charming villages. Home to three iconic jutting peninsulas in the northern region of mainland Greece. Thessaloniki has a rich history and culture, in addition to being a great base for exploring northern Greece.

Day 1
We depart Dublin on our direct schedule flight to Thessaloniki airport, on arrival you will be met by our tour leader and guide and taken by coach to the beautiful, relaxed seaside town of Nea Kalikratia on the Halkidiki Peninsula. You will be staying at a 3* Hotel which is only a 2-minute walk from the pristine, sandy beach and the crystal blue waters of the Aegean. Take the rest of the day to familiarise yourself with your surroundings. Dinner is included.

Day 2
Today will give you the chance to experience two of the major historical centres on the Peninsula Filippi and Kavala. After breakfast, you will be taken by coach to Fillipi. Here you can see the ruins of the earliest city founded by Philip of Macedon in 356 BCE as well as the Forum and Agora, the Roman Theatre and the Basilica of St. Paul. Then it’s onwards to the city of Kavala. Here you’ll soak up the atmosphere of the picturesque old town and have time to enjoy the many historical and architectural treats on offer. Afterwards, you’ll return by coach to Kalikratia for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3
Today is a free day for you to explore on your own. Klikratia is a quiet and relaxed town so perhaps today is a day for finding a nice spot on the nearby beach or taking a leisurely stroll along the pretty promenade lined with shops and restaurants before finding some perfect place for lunch you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Day 4
Today, you’ll be picked up from your hotel after breakfast and taken to Ouranoupolis where you can enjoy some free time and lunch at your leisure. Ouranoupolis has a small and friendly feel to it & is the closest village to the border of the Athos monastic republic. This is a quiet place with wonderful nature, away from the city noise and trendy resorts. Enjoy free time here to take in the historical sights before you embark on a cruise a definite highlight of the journey. Mount Athos is known as the Holy Mountain it is an extraordinary place that captivates with its breathtaking natural beauty and profound spirituality. Home to ancient monasteries and hermitages, this autonomous monastic state is a sanctuary of Byzantine art, where devoted monks maintain a timeless devotion to prayer, meditation, and preserving a unique living heritage. PRO TIP: Stay on the left side of the boat to see the monasteries better as on the return the boat won’t get as close to the shore.

Day 5
Breakfast at the Hotel and check out please ensure you pack all your belongings it’s goodbye to Kalikratia as your journey continues to Mount Olympus National Park and Dion. Dion, nestled at the foot of Mount Olympus near Thessaloniki is a captivating archaeological gem. Rich in history and myth, it boasts well-preserved ruins, theatres, sanctuaries, and a museum, providing a captivating journey through ancient times. The site's backdrop of natural beauty makes it an enchanting and awe-inspiring destination. Afterwards, you carry on to Thessaloniki to check in to your 3*+ Hotel.

Day 6
After breakfast, it’s a full day in Thessaloniki. This is an amazing city. Its rich history unfolds through ancient ruins, Byzantine architecture, and Ottoman influences. The White Tower, waterfront promenade, and vibrant markets offer cultural experiences. As a culinary hub, it tantalises with Mediterranean flavours. Friendly locals, and a laid-back atmosphere add to its allure. You end your tour of the city at its famous Modiano Market & Thessaloniki's historic hub, bustling with stalls offering fresh produce, goods, and authentic local experiences. A must-see for any visitor to the city. Here you’ll be invited to sample some local food, wines and beers.

Day 7
A free day to relax and perhaps retrace some of your steps from yesterday or get happily lost for an hour or two finding new sights, sounds and tastes before a leisurely lunch and well-earned drink. Thessaloniki never fails to amaze with its rich history, vibrant culture, stunning waterfront, delectable cuisine, welcoming locals, and lively atmosphere that enchants every visitor. So don’t pass up the opportunity today to dive right in.

Day 8
Breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport at the end of what promises to be a trip to remember!
