Day 1 - Fly overnight to Ulaanbaatar

Fly overnight to Mongolia's capital Ulaanbaatar. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your time of arrival, the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture.

Day 2 - Fly overnight to Ulaanbaatar

Day 3 - Explore Ulaanbaatar

Start your explorations with a visit to GandanMonastery, the largest and most importantmonastery in Mongolia. Here, observe themonk's morning chants and learn moreabout Mongolian Buddhism. Then head tothe heart of the city to explore SukhbaatarSquare and view the fascinating exhibitions ofthe Chinggis Khaan Museum. This evening,enjoy a lively folklore concert that featurestraditional songs, dances and music.

Day 4 - Terelj National Park

Leave the city and travel into the hinterlandto discover the picturesque scenery of TereljNational Park. Start with a walk to the Templeof Meditation and around the iconic TurtleRock working up an appetite for lunch at a gercamp. Pause at the impressive Genghis KhanEquestrian Statue Complex before returning toUlaanbaatar.

Day 5 - Travel to the Gobi Desert

Transfer to the airport and fly to the GobiDesert. Drive to the Yol Valley in the GobiGurvansaikhan National Park. Take a scenicwalk through Yoliin Am, a narrow gorge ofice formations and towering rocks. Overnight in a premium ger or hotel.

Day 6 - Through the Gobi

Drive through breathtaking desert landscapes,spotting camel herds and their herders asyou go, to reach the spectacular Khongoryn Els, an area of towering sand dunes. Explorethe dunes on foot, climbing to the top forpanoramic views over the desert. Dine tonightunder the vast and starry Gobi sky and relaxin a premium ger camp for two nights.

Day 7 - Sand dunes of Khongoryn Els

Spend a full day exploring the beauty ofKhongoryn Els, some of the world's mostspectacular sand dunes. Take a short walkto admire the contrasts between the shiftingsands and green oases and visit a nomadiccamel herding family to learn about their wayof life. Here, you can taste camel milk yogurt,a Gobi Desert delicacy. In the afternoon,discover the ‘singing' sand dunes.

Day 8 - Flaming Cliffs of Bayanzag

Drive through magnificent landscapes toreach Bayanzag, the Flaming Cliffs, to admirethese red sandstone formations. Take awalk through the Gobi Dinosaurs Cemetery,keeping a look out for fossils, before a guidedwalk to discover more about the area's richpaleontological history. Overnight in a premium ger camp.

Day 9 - Bayanzag to Ongiin Hiid to Orkhon Valley

Set out across the stark scenery of the Gobito Ongiin Khiid, a monastery sat on the banksof the Ongi River. Wander around the ruinsof two historic monasteries which were onceamong the largest in Mongolia and take awalk around the site to learn more about thearea's past. Spend the night by the river in astandard ger camp.

Day 10 - Journey to Karakorum

Drive across the steppe to Karakorum, a townon the Orkhon River. Explore the Orkhon Valley,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes the ruins of Genghis Khan's capital Karakorumand the fascinating Karakorum Museum. Spend two nights in a hotel.

Day 11 - Erdene Zuu Monastery

This morning, visit Erdene Zuu in time towitness the monks doing their morningchants, a deeply resonant experience.Later, visit a nomadic family who will guideyou through an airag (fermented mare'smilk) tasting and show you how to preparethe traditional Mongolian barbeque dish,khorkhog.

Day 12 - Khustai National Park

Travel to Khustai National Park, home toMongolia's famous takhi, or Przewalski's horse.Once extinct in the wild, this population of wildhorses were reintroduced to their native habitatin the 1990s. Enjoy an early evening viewingof these majestic creatures before travellingon to your premium ger camp, set among thebeauty of the rolling steppe.

Day 13 - Return to Ulaanbaatar

This morning, enjoy a fun and fascinatingshow of nomadic culture at your gercamp, then drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

Day 14 - Naadam Festival Day 1

Travel to the Central Stadium where thehighlight of your Mongolia adventure is aboutto begin! Mingle with locals and nomads asyou watch the opening ceremony, with itsprocession of athletes, officials and monksbefore the games begin! Today, you can seearchery, the first of the traditional three ‘manlysports', and ankle bone shooting competitions.

Day 15 - Naadam Festival Day 2

This morning, travel out to Khuin DoloonKhudag for the Naadam Festival horse racing– a thrilling set of long-distance enduranceraces across the open steppe. Return tothe Central Stadium this afternoon for theMongolian wrestling which, along with horseracing, makes up the three ‘manly sports' ofthe festival. Tonight, a farewell dinner offersthe perfect opportunity to reflect on thisonce-in-a-lifetime experience with your fellowtravellers.

Day 16 - Depart Ulaanbaatar

Transfer to the airport. Fly to UK, arriving home the same or following day.
