Milan Holidays

Milan is a city of contrasts, where centuries of history sit comfortably alongside cutting-edge style and modern business. As Italy's fashion and financial capital, it has a confident, fast-paced feel, yet it still rewards visitors who slow down and explore its quieter corners.

At the heart of the city stands the magnificent Duomo di Milano, an extraordinary Gothic cathedral adorned with hundreds of spires and statues. Climbing to the rooftop offers sweeping views across the city and, on a clear day, towards the Alps. Nearby, the elegant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II provides a grand setting for shopping or simply enjoying a coffee beneath its glass dome.

Milan's cultural heritage is rich and varied. Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, housed in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, is one of the world's most celebrated artworks and well worth booking in advance. The historic Castello Sforzesco and the surrounding Parco Sempione offer insight into the city's past and a welcome green escape.

The city is also renowned for its fashion and design scene, particularly during Milan Fashion Week and the Salone del Mobile, when the streets come alive with creativity. In the evenings, the Navigli district is popular for its canals, lively bars and relaxed aperitivo culture.

Milan is a largely walkable city, especially within the historic centre, where many of the main sights are within easy reach of one another. Strolling between landmarks allows visitors to take in the city's architecture, neighbourhood cafés and stylish shopfronts at a leisurely pace. For longer distances, Milan has an efficient and easy-to-use public transport system, including an extensive metro network, trams and buses that connect all parts of the city. The metro is often the quickest way to get around, with clear signage and frequent services, while the iconic yellow trams provide a more scenic way to travel through the streets. Tickets are affordable and can be used across all forms of public transport. Taxis and ride-hailing services are widely available, although traffic can be busy at peak times.

With its compact centre, reliable transport links and pedestrian-friendly streets, Milan is a city that is straightforward to navigate, making it an enjoyable destination for both short visits and longer stays.
