Step into the warmth and wonder of the Mediterranean on this unforgettable walking holiday through the enchanting islands of Malta and Gozo. Blending centuries of history, spectacular coastal scenery, and the easy rhythm of island life, this journey offers the perfect mix of gentle exploration and cultural discovery.

Our adventure begins on the peaceful island of Gozo, where rolling hills, terraced fields, and dramatic cliffs create a picture-perfect landscape for walking. Then, on the larger island of Malta, experience a delightful contrast — from lively harbour towns and ancient temples to stretches of unspoiled countryside and sunlit bays.

With a knowledgeable local guide to bring the islands’ rich stories to life, and Malta’s warm climate, welcoming people, and leisurely walking routes, this holiday is ideal for those who love to explore on foot at a relaxed pace while savouring the culture, flavours, and natural beauty of the Mediterranean.

This holiday is graded as a leisurely walking holiday. While this holiday is suitable for beginners a good level of fitness is still required for this holiday. Hikes range from 7.5km to 10km. Expect to be walking between 3 to 4 hours per day with on mostly flat ground with occasional ascents of up to 200m. Hikes will be on mostly good paths with some gravel and rocky terrain with cliffside walks.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Malta

It’s time to set off for our walking holiday in the heart of the Mediterranean!

We’ll fly into Malta Airport, where we’ll be greeted by our local guide before travelling by ferry on a short crossing to the charming island of Gozo - a tranquil haven just 9 miles long and 5 miles wide. Famous for its dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and rolling rural landscapes, Gozo’s unhurried pace and timeless beauty offer a refreshing step back in time.

After checking in and settling into our hotel, we’ll gather this evening for a welcome dinner, a chance to meet our fellow walkers and share our excitement for the adventures ahead.

Day 2 - Sannap Cliffs Coastal Walk to Xlendi Bay

Today we will embark on a hike showcasing some of Gozo’s most spectacular coastal scenery. We’ll begin at the dramatic Sannap Cliffs near Munxar, where sheer limestone walls plunge into the sparkling Mediterranean below. Our trail follows the clifftop, weaving through peaceful countryside and terraced fields scented with wild herbs.
As we approach the coast, the path descends into the picturesque seaside village of Xlendi, framed by golden cliffs and crystal-clear waters. Here, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved included lunch before returning to our hotel for a relaxing afternoon and dinner.

Today's leisurely walk of 9km is expected to take approximately 3 hours with ascents of 250m and descents of 200m.

Day 3 – Dwejra Bay Loop & the Inland Sea

On todays’ hike we will discover the fascinating ways the sea has sculpted Gozo’s rugged landscape. We begin in the quiet village of San Lawrenz, where the path leads us from sun-baked farmland, dotted with olive trees and dry-stone walls, to coastal limestone trails that trace the island’s dramatic edge.
Our looped hike brings us to the tranquil Inland Sea, a shimmering lagoon connected to the open water by a natural sea tunnel. From here, we’ll follow a rocky trail that climbs above the cliffs, rewarding us with sweeping views of the coast. Along the way, we’ll see Fungus Rock, standing proudly at the entrance to Dwejra Bay, before reaching Dwejra Point, the site of the former Azure Window — once one of Malta’s most iconic landmarks.
Make sure to bring your swimwear, as there’s an opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the Inland Sea before completing our loop back to San Lawrenz.

Today's leisurely walk of 7.6km is expected to take approximately 3 hours with ascents of 182m and descents of 182m.

After our walk, we’ll stop at a traditional family-run bakery for a local snack before leaving Gozo behind. A ferry ride brings us to the larger island of Malta, where we’ll check in to our hotel in the beautiful St Paul’s Bay area and enjoy dinner this evening.

Day 4 - Mellieha to Golden Bay

This morning, our hike begins in the picturesque village of Mellieha, set on a hilltop overlooking Malta’s northern coastline. We’ll follow country trails down to the golden sands of Ghadira Bay, before turning inland across peaceful farmland and rural tracks leading to Popeye Village — the quirky seaside film set originally built for the Popeye movie, now one of Malta’s most charming attractions.
As we continue, we’ll enjoy panoramic views of the nearby islands of Comino and Gozo, before walking through the wild landscapes of the Majjistral Nature Park, Malta’s first national park. Our route concludes at the sweeping Golden Bay, where you can relax or take a swim in the crystal-clear waters.

We’ll then return to Mellieha for an included lunch, before heading back to our hotel for a free afternoon and dinner this evening.

Today's leisurely walk of 10km is expected to take approximately 3.5 hours with ascents of 140m and descents of 230m.

Day 5- At Leisure

Today is yours to enjoy at leisure in St Paul’s Bay. Take the opportunity to relax by the hotel pool, enjoy a gentle seaside stroll, or explore the local area at your own pace. Have a chat to your local guide about things to do, such as visiting Valetta.

Day 6 - Marsaskala to Marsaxlokk

This morning we travel to southern Malta for a scenic coastal walk that captures the island’s natural beauty and authentic character.
Beginning in the seaside town of Marsaskala, our route follows the rugged shoreline across the Delimara Peninsula, passing ancient salt pans, quiet coves, and stretches of untouched coastline framed by panoramic sea views. Our walk ends in the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk, famous for its colourful luzzus - traditional Maltese fishing boats - and lively waterfront lined with seafood restaurants and market stalls.

Here we’ll relax over a well-earned included lunch at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel for the evening.

Today's leisurely walk of 8km is expected to take approximately 3 hours with ascents of 100m and descents of 100m.

Day 7 - Dingli Cliffs to Mdina

Our final hike begins in the historic town of Rabat, rich in heritage and local charm. We’ll pass the Verdala Palace, a 16th-century landmark overlooking the lush valley, before entering the Buskett Gardens — one of Malta’s few wooded areas, offering peaceful shade and birdsong along our route.
From here, we’ll make our way towards the dramatic Dingli Cliffs, following the clifftop path for breathtaking views across the open countryside and the Mediterranean Sea. Continuing through Dingli village, we’ll return via quiet country tracks towards Rabat, where our walk concludes at the fortified city of Mdina.

Known as the Silent City, Mdina’s narrow lanes and golden-stone buildings exude timeless charm. Before your free time to explore, enjoy a tasting of local favourites — a refreshing Kinnie, Malta’s iconic soft drink, and warm pastizzi, flaky pastries filled with ricotta or peas - a delicious way to round off our walking adventure.

Today's leisurely walk of 10km is expected to take approximately 4 hours with ascents of 200m and descents of 250m.
