Twinkling Christmas markets, medieval old towns, and snow-dusted vineyards set the scene for a cozy yet elegant journey, complete with warm hospitality, seasonal delights, and unforgettable winter views—all from the comfort of your luxurious river cruise ship.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Travel to Dusseldorf & Board the Ship in Cologne

Begin your river cruise adventure in style as you depart Dublin on a direct flight to Düsseldorf. On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our experienced Tour Leader, who will be with you every step of the way. Sit back and relax as we transfer by comfortable coach to the port, where the elegant A-ROSA Aqua awaits. Step aboard and settle in as your unforgettable river journey is about to begin.

As the ship does not depart until 5:00 pm, you will have plenty of time to explore Cologne, a city rich in history and architectural grandeur. Discover its many impressive landmarks, including the magnificent Cologne Cathedral, or wander through the lively old town with its charming streets and riverside views. Be sure to soak up the festive atmosphere at the Christmas market beside the Cathedral, where you can enjoy a traditional Weckmänner—a delicious local yeast pastry—along with a warming cup of hot punch.

Day 2 – Rüdesheim & Mainz

This morning, we call at Rüdesheim, one of the most charming and culturally rich towns along the Rhine. During your visit, you’ll discover the heart of Rhine Romanticism, a place that once inspired poets, painters, and composers—most notably Johannes Brahms, who composed his Third Symphony here. From a cultural perspective, this celebrated town in the Rheingau region offers a wealth of historic aristocratic estates, vineyards, and impressive fortifications. And of course, no visit would be complete without sampling the local coffee specialty, Rüdesheimer Kaffee, invented here and not to be missed during your day on the Rhine.

In the evening, we will stop at Mainz. It is not only one of Germany’s oldest cities, with over 2,000 years of history, but also a place where the past comes alive at every turn. During the holiday season, local traditions are especially cherished, creating a wonderfully festive atmosphere throughout the city. A visit to the historic Christmas Market on Cathedral Square is highly recommended, where the beautifully illuminated and decorated Mainz Cathedral provides a truly enchanting backdrop that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Day 3 - Frankfurt

Today we visit Frankfurt, a dynamic city where historic charm meets modern sophistication. Spend the day exploring the beautifully restored Old Town (Römerberg), home to timber-framed houses, medieval squares, and the iconic Römer City Hall. Culture lovers may wish to visit one of Frankfurt’s many renowned museums along the Museum Embankment, while shoppers can enjoy the elegant boutiques and cafés of Zeil, one of Germany’s most famous shopping streets. Take time to stroll along the River Main or admire panoramic city views from the Main Tower. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and cosmopolitan atmosphere, Frankfurt offers something for every traveller to enjoy.

Day 4 – Loreley Valley & Koblenz
Steep cliffs and wintry forests line the dramatic Loreley Passage as the river glides silently through this legendary stretch of the Rhine. According to myth, the beautiful nymph Loreley once sat high on the cliffs, enchanting passing sailors with her song and luring them to their fate below. This timeless legend, woven into the landscape itself, continues to capture the imagination of visitors as they cruise through one of the Rhine’s most evocative regions
In the afternoon we will visit Koblenz. Koblenz sits at the meeting point of the Rhine and Moselle rivers and offers a wonderful blend of history, scenery, and charm. Highlights include the dramatic Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the two rivers converge, and the mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, reached by scenic cable car for breathtaking views over the city and river valleys. Stroll through the picturesque old town with its historic squares, cozy cafés, and festive atmosphere, making Koblenz a delightful stop on your Rhine journey.

Day 5 – Return Home
We will disembark the ship by 7:00 a.m. A light breakfast box will be provided for you to take with you, including a small bun and juice or water. From there, we will transfer by coach to Düsseldorf Airport for our flight home. As our journey comes to an end, we hope you take with you many lovely memories from this special trip.
