Hiroshima & Miyajima Island

1/3

Hiroshima & Miyajima Island

The vibrant city of Hiroshima is only a short bullet train ride from Osaka (90mins), or approx 4hrs from Tokyo. More famously known for it's tragic past, the city doesn't dwell on this, instead it promotes peace and understanding which is reflected in the warm welcome you'll receive from the locals. A visit to the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, is an extraordinary experience, followed by Orizuru Tower, which offers poignant views over the beautiful city and parks below.

Miyajima Island is an absolute must, and one of the most photographed places in Japan. It can be reached in 30mins from Hiroshima Station to Miyajimaguchi Station, and the ferry takes approx 10mins to the island itself. The "floating Torri Gate" and "Itsukushima shrine" are the biggest draw on the island and one of Japan's most recognisable sites, but there are a number of other shrines and temples well worth visiting.
