Funchal is the capital of Madeira and is a bustling modern cosmopolitan city. It is set on the sunny south coast of the island. Lined with palm trees and bordered by splendid botanical gardens this promenade links the Lido area with the pebbled Praia Formosa beach at the western end of Funchal, offering breath taking views over the sea and towards Cabo Girao. The lido offers a number of pools for both adults and children, restaurants, snack bars, sports activities and direct access to the sea. There is a good selection of restaurants along the promenade.
Away from the lido and poolside there are plenty of leisure activities to enjoy in Funchal including diving, surfing, whale and dolphin watching trips, day tours along the coast, exploring the charming gardens and parks, golf courses, casino, shopping in the fabulous range of boutiques, shopping centres and markets.
