Zakynthos Town (also known as Zante Town or Chora) is the capital of Zakynthos. The city is located on the eastern coast, at the foot of Bochali Hill, and with its 16,000 residents, it is the largest city on the island. For centuries, the city was ruled by the Venetians and there remains a distinctly Italian ambience in many of the quaint squares and cobbled streets around town.

Zakynthos is connected to all the tourist centres of the island (Argassi, Kalamaki, Limni Kerì, Tsivilì, Laganas, Vassilikos and Alykes) by bus with daily runs so it’s easy to get around. The city offers many interesting things to do & see. There are many churches & squares, numerous museums & small streets to explore. The Venetian Castle, which overlooks the city, serves as a reminder of the island’s history.

There is an abundance of shops of all kinds as well as traditional taverns, high-end restaurants, fast food outlets & pubs, seafront cafes & music venues. You won’t be bored here! The beach of Zakynthos Town, which is mostly pebbles rather than sand, extends for 2 km from Solomos Square & is well equipped for visitors with a promenade lined with childrens parks and cafes.
