Lopud
Croatia
The island of Lopud is a tiny jewel set in the blue water of the Adriatic Sea. Directly facing Dubrovnik, cars are not allowed on the island making it a unique natural paradise. Easily accessible from Dubrovnik by boat, Lopud Island is a scenic and tranquil place, car-free & with 1.2 km of sandy beaches.
Located just over 7 nautical miles from Dubrovnik (about 14 kilometres), the island has just a couple of hundred permanent inhabitants. The main attraction on the island is the Franciscan monastery and adjacent church. The island really only has one village, which is also called Lopud and is located in Lopud bay. Lopud has many restaurants, cafes, bars, and pizzerias. You can also enjoy your time walking the island’s paths through its lush vegetation (especially on a walk to Sunj bay to spend an afternoon there). It is also possible to rent bikes to navigate the island tracks, or kayaks to spend some time doing something a little more active on the sea!
This is an island of immense natural beauty, historic charm, and a very appealing relaxed pace of life.
