Thinking of your holiday to Riva del Garda? Did you know Sunway offer direct flights from Ireland to Verona Villafranca airport.
The second largest town on the northern end of the lake, Riva del Garda is a vibrant, charming and lively town filled with fashionable shops and restaurants. Dating as far back as Roman times, the quaint old town which is centred around a 12th century fortress, is perfect for strolling around and enjoying the many cafes, bars and restaurants. The clock tower within the old town offers some superb views of the imposing mountains behind, the town and shimmering lake below. The stairway is not for those with walking difficulties though. The promenade runs alongside the lake and offers wonderful views during the day and evening with superb mountain scenery as its backdrop. The promenade is lined with pizzerias, cafes, shops and ice cream parlours.
From the harbour, there are regular ferries and hydrofoils visiting the other towns on the lake. There is a regular bus service also. This area boasts one of the best beaches on the lake with plenty of sunbathing and swimming spots. Water sports are plentiful in Riva including sailing, wind surfing and canoeing to name a few. Boats for use / hire range from a dinghy up to a catamaran. Bicycles can be hired too with plenty of well-marked cycle paths taking in the beautiful surroundings and local villages. Or if you’re feeling a little more energetic go mountain biking up into the mountains to experience the stunning panoramic views below.
A visit to the civic museum is a great way to soak up a bit of the culture with a host of exhibits and paintings depicting Italian history. Some international artists are featured also. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Riva so you won’t be short of choices when it comes to where you spend your evenings. Finish the evening off with a ice cream and a stroll down the promenade which has a great little buzz about it!
