Fully Guided
Join us as we embark on a journey that will take us back in time to explore the legendary realm of Count Dracula. Our Itinerary includes fascinating destinations such as Dracula’s Castle and the birthplace of the infamous vampire, Sighisoara.
In addition to this we will experience Transylvania’s multi-ethnic heritage and medieval charm.
Itinerary:
Day 1
We depart Dublin on our direct scheduled flight from Dublin to Cluj. On arrival we are met by our Tour Leader. We are then transferred by coach to the city of Sibiu in central Romania which is known for its Germanic architecture in its old town, the legacy of 12th century Saxon settlers. We will be staying here for 5 nights in our centrally located 4-star hotel.
Day 2
After breakfast we will have a walking tour of the old city where we will learn of its historical past and cultural events. Starting from our hotel and continuing on through the old streets of the city you will see the main attractions like the Big Square, the Small Square with the “Eyes of the City”, the Evangelical Church, the Famous Liars’ Bridge, the Orthodox Cathedrals of Sibiu and much more. We then have the rest of the day free to enjoy Sibiu. You can explore the narrow streets, the colourful buildings in the three central squares, the house arches, courtyards and mysterious tunnels, passageways and rooftops all mottled with “eyes” wide open which will allow you to experience the flair of this city. Sibiu is one of Romania’s cultural and tourism capitals, attracting tourists from all over the world due to its wonderful medieval charm. Over the years our clients have always enjoyed their stay in this beautiful city. Optional Extra: In the evening you can have a nice dinner with the famous pork knuckle at a local restaurant in Sibiu.
Day 3
After breakfast we drive to Bran enjoying views of the wonderful Carpathian Mountains. Here we visit the world-famous 12th century Dracula’s Castle with its stunning location perched high on top of a 200ft rock. We always visit Dracula’s Castle in the morning as Count Dracula sleeps during the day so we don’t want to disturb him. After our visit of the Castle we have some free time in Bran and we then return to our hotel in Sibiu.
Day 4
After breakfast we explore the villages surrounding Sibiu which is located at the bottom of the Cindrel Mountains. We start with the villages that have Saxon influence like Cisnadioara where we will visit one of the oldest fortified churches. The next stops are different architectural wise and depict life in Rasinari a Romania village known for their Shepards and cheese production. We will then visit Sibiel, a typical Romanian village, which has a Museum of icons painted on glass by the Romanian peasants in the area. Our last stop is in Cristian – a village inhabited mostly by Landlers who were a population brought here by the Austrian Empire. The attraction here is a fortified church but also we will see an abundance of Storks that call this village home. After our visits, we will return to Sibiu.
Day 5
Today we go on a day trip to Sighisoara, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is also the birthplace of Dracula and is considered one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. This perfectly intact gem with nine towers, cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches rivals Prague or Vienna for atmospheric magic. Here we will visit Dracua’s house and we will do a short walking tour through the old town with our local guide and enjoy its original medieval architecture, magical mix of winding cobbled alleys, steep stairways, secluded squares, turrets and it’s enchanting, preserved citadel. Particularly striking is the 14th Century Clock Tower and it is like stepping back in time. We will have plenty of time to enjoy this lovely town.
Day 6
After breakfast we depart our hotel and drive to Alba Lulia, where we can visit this beautiful preserved old town. In the afternoon you will visit the spectacular Salt Mine of Turda and also Cluj Napoca which is considered the unofficial Capital of Transylvania. We are then dropped off that evening at Cluj Airport for our direct flight home to Dublin.
Please note that this is our planned itinerary but sometimes due to circumstances beyond our control we may have to alter it slightly.
