8 nights / 9 days

Fully Guided

For the first 5 nights of our holiday, we will be staying in Malta, known as Gozo's big sister. It is a small island, only 17 miles long and 9 miles wide but it has a population of 500,000. Malta is steeped in history and the Irish always get a warm welcome. You will be amazed at how inexpensive the Maltese islands are.

Gozo is an absolute gem of an island, only 9 miles long and 5 miles wide. Despite its size it has an abundance of things to do and see. The population is 32,000 and 7,000 live in its capital city Victoria. Virtually everybody can speak English and it will remind you of Ireland 50 years ago. We will be staying for the last 3 nights on this beautiful island.

Day 1

We depart Dublin on our direct flight to Malta. On arrival you will be met by our tour leader and our tour guide who will lead the group and will arrange your transfer by coach to our hotel in Qawra. We will be staying for 5 nights in the 4 star Santana Hotel Malta, which is only a few minutes’ walk from the promenade.

Day 2

A free day to experience the beautiful resort of Qawra and surrounding resorts of St Pauls Bay and Buggiba. You can take a relaxing walk along the picturesque seaside promenade or the local bus station is only 200 metres away and offers a very cheap and efficient way to travel around the island. Like most seaside resorts there are numerous shops and restaurants.

Day 3

After breakfast we travel by coach to the medieval hilltop city of Mdina, the old capital of Malta where our local tour guide will lead us on a walking tour through the narrow streets and admire the magnificent architecture. We then proceed to the remote Westside of the island visiting the spectacular cliffs of Dingli. Our lunchtime stop is in the picturesque fishing village of Marsallox where you have an excellent choice of restaurants. In the afternoon we travel to the old town of Mosta where we visit its famous church and admire its huge unsupported dome. It is known locally as the Miracle Church. A German bomb fell through the roof during mass and did not explode.

Day 4

We have a free day of leisure.

Day 5

After breakfast we head to Malta’s capital city of Valetta which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our local tour guide will walk us through this truly beautiful medieval city with its fantastic views of the Grand Harbour. We will also visit St John’s Co. Cathedral where you can admire the famous Caravaggio’s masterpiece, ‘The Beheading of St John’. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon giving you plenty of time to soak up the many charms of Valetta.

Day 6

At 10.30am we depart for Gozo by coach. We then catch the ferry to Gozo which takes half an hour. On arrival at Gozo we are transferred to the 4-star Hotel Calypso in the fishing village of Marsalforn. The hotel is ideally situated on the coast and you will love the natural beauty of this charming seaside village. There are numerous little craft shops and cafes to enjoy.

Day 7

A coach will take us to Dwerja Bay on the North Gozo coast. We will then travel by coach to the Maltese Islands most famous centre for pilgrimage, the magnificent Ta Pinu Basilica. This is a very special place for the Gozitans and Maltese. Our lunchtime stop is in the picturesque seaside resort of Xlendi on the South Gozo coast.
