Taroudant

Morocco

With its imposing ramparts surrounding the town and its lively souks, Taroudant is known as ‘Little Marrackech’! Hidden away behind the ramparts of the old walled city is a bustling souk and marketplace, which carries on its trade in exactly the same way as it has done for hundreds of years. The Place Assarag and its tiny cafes is a favourite meeting place for visitors and locals.

With a predominantly Berber population, who are well known for their friendliness, Taroudant makes an ideal remote retreat or as part of a twin centre holiday. Located in the heart of south Morocco in a fertile valley with some of the best preserved town walls in Morocco, fruit orchards surrounding the city and the Atlas mountains as its backdrop, Taroudant enjoys a picture perfect setting.

It also makes for a great base to see some of Morocco’s other attractions with the hustle and bustle of Marrakech only a 2 hour drive away and the seaside resort of Agadir approximately 1 hour’s drive away. Or perhaps a trek into the surrounding Atlas mountains to explore Berber villages.

The main attractions of Taroudant are its ramparts, Kasbah and souks. While away an afternoon touring around the ramparts in a caléche (horse-drawn carriage) or shop till you drop within the medina’s 2 souks. The Arab Souk is particularly good for crafts and jewellery while the Marché Berbére is more of a general every day market. All the important amenities can be found on or near the 2 central squares, Place Assarag and Place en Nasr.

Please note our representatives are only contactable by telephone in Taroudant.

Transfer from Agadir airport approx. 55 minutes.
