Puerto del Carmen
Lanzarote, Canaries
Lanzarote's biggest resort has all the things that people love about the Canary Islands: it has four beautiful beaches, exciting water sports, shops, bars, restaurants, hiking routes, cycling lanes – even a zoo!
Playa Grande is six km of golden sand and boasts a blue flag. The sea is very shallow which is great for swimmers, smaller children and the older generation. There are lifeguards on duty all year round at Playa Grande and there is access to the beach for wheelchair users and those with restricted mobility. You can hire sun-loungers, parasols and pedal-boats here and there are also two bars for food and drink.
Playa Chica, is the resorts smaller beach and known for its still waters which really suit inexperienced swimmers or families with young children. It's also a main hub for learning to surf, snorkel and scuba dive. Professional schools will show you how to enjoy the marine life and beautiful scenery in these warm waters.
A pretty and relaxing section of Puerto del Carmen, the Old Town Harbour is a great place to stroll along and simply take in the views. With great bars and restaurants, its lively and fun at night time too. Las Playas Avenue also boasts a great selection of bars, pubs, live shows, and nightclubs. As Lanzarote's best-known resort, the island's top restaurants are here too. Diners can try different cuisines every meal, all at great prices.
Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is one of the top attractions in Puerto del Carmen. The animal and water park offer a whole day activity for the entire family. Get to know different wildlife like rare white tigers, sea lions and armadillos. Later, have fun in the pools and plummet down the slides.
Shopping is great in Puerto Del Carmen too with a high street shopping centre as well as smaller perfume and designer shops. It's a duty-free island so its good value too.
