About 20km east of Chania lies the charming village of Kalyves. Set against the backdrop of the stunning White Mountains, it overlooks the breathtaking Souda Bay and is truly a sight for sore eyes. Kalyves is the perfect destination for getting away from it all. Certainly the pristine, white, sandy beach sloping gently into clear, azure waters is one of the area's great attractions but Kalyves is ideal also for hiking, biking or just exploring at your own pace.

Slightly further afield there are other attractions that are well worth visiting: Liminopolis Water park is only half an hour away by car and promises fun for all the family. Onolos Botanical Park in Chania is a must see for its stunning scenery and peaceful setting. For the fitter among us there's a walking excursion from the village to the Samaria Gorge
● challenging but well worth the effort. Of course there's Chania itself with its charming Venetian port and plenty of shopping in the old town. Kalyves promises a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle but is also close enough to the buzz and excitement of Chania when you feel the need!
