Perched high above the sea sitting majestically on the side of Mount Tauro is Taormina; the most fashionable and well established resort in Sicily.
It became an important part of the ‘Grand Tour’ that European aristocrats and artists undertook many years ago. And still today thrives on tourism. It is a bustling resort offering breath-taking views of the coastline, full of fascinating side streets and colourful alleyways with their tumbling bougainvillea, yet exhibiting an old world charm.
Taormina is filled with restaurants, ice cream parlours, cafes, shops and bars. The main shopping area is the Corso Umberto. You will find a mixture of designer shops, chic boutiques and souvenir shops full of the local crafts. Nightlife centres on eating out, strolling around the town and people-watching from the many cafes and restaurants. People watching is the local pastime! The Greco-Roman amphitheatre has been well preserved and is now the venue for many a festival, be it music, dance or theatre. There is a daily cable car down to the beach in Taormina Mazzaro.
Transfer from Catania airport approx. 1 hour 10 minutes.
